Further, the shop owner, though cordial, did not seem remotely interested in whether we had caught fish or not. The fly shop was very sparsely stocked with inventory.
Great experience! We had a guide for the day to help me learn to fly fish while my husband could enjoy his own fishing time. He was so friendly and just fun to hang out with, he had great tips and was wonderful at teaching me to fish. I highly recommend talking to them when you're in town. Great folks!
As a new B to fly fishing I couldn't have found a better guide service than Hookers. Jason paired me up with Jalen for a half day of fishing. As someone that has only caught one fish in my life (71) Jalen took time to teach me and I ended up catching all 3 species with a total of 10 trout. What a great day. Thanks guys and I'll be back for sure.
Had a great experience with these guys over the Thanksgiving holiday. Did a last minute trip to Cashiers, NC and tried to book a trip through a fly shop in town there. They were totally booked but recommended I call Jason at Hookers. Even though it was the day before, he didn't hesitate to set a trip up on the spot. Booked a half-day on the Tuck and it was even cheaper than the place in Cashiers. Jason was extremely helpful and provided all gear, instruction, and tons of help - since it was my first time going. He had a wealth of experience and knowledge on the water and we seemed to be bringing in way more fish than the folks around us. Was even kind enough to take pictures and send them to me afterward. All told it was a great experience and I would recommend Hookers and their guided trips - make sure you wear warm socks though!
We would not use them again and would not recommend. There is a fly shop in Cherokee that is far superior.
We had not fly fished the Tuck before and had reserved a guide from Hookers Fly Shop for this past Friday, May 24. When we booked, we had been told the owner of the shop would be guiding us but when we arrived, it turned out that a younger guide was assigned us. This young man tired to make our day enjoyable and productive but we found that, though very nice, he was a full time student and only guided a couple of times each month. So, he was not as up to speed as would have been a full time guide.
I am a full time student at Western Carolina and picked up fly fishing not too long ago. Hookers Fly Shop is just a short drive down the road from the university. When I first got into fly fishing I KNEW NOTHING!!!! Every time I visited the shop it was a learning experience for me. Hookers Fly Shop always took the time to teach me new things about what flies to use, ways to present them to the fish, and also how to tie them no matter how busy they were or how much they had going on at the time. I buy all of my materials from Hookers Fly Shop and they have always worked with me on things and made sure that I was getting the best deals. Hookers Fly Shop is not a customer environment like most stores but it is a friendly environment where I have always felt welcome and felt like more than just another customer.The Experience level of all of the guides at the shop is tremendous and they always put you on the fish! Whether getting a guide or just asking for advice, Hookers Fly Shop is the "Go To" shop for all of your needs! I highly recommend the shop and will be a lifetime customer for sure!
